Yellowjacket Triathlon is one of the newest sports in the department and the entire NCAA, with only 40+ schools sponsoring the sport. Head Coach Kevin Bjerke (3rd season) has established this competitive program while attracting quality student-athletes for this unique sport. The corner-stone athlete for this program has been Crow Agency native Madisan Chavez who became the first athlete to qualify for the National Championships this year. Giving this program a home on-campus will help continue Coach Bjerke's work to lay a foundation for the program's long-term success.
Funds raised thru this project will help provide Yellowjacket Triathlon with an indoor home in the Physical Education Building by funding phase one of their locker room renovation to convert an existing space into a much-needed indoor training and team area. All monies raised above and beyond the cost of phase one will be put toward the planned phase two of the remodel. Funds raised thru this project will have an immediate impact on enhancing that student-athlete experience for our Yellowjacket Triathletes and helping to draw more recruits to the program. Outdoor sports have a more challenging time in northern climates, and this room will be a game-changer for the program.
